One should not rejoice on attaining what is pleasant. In the course of one’s life, one may attain many pleasant things. When one attains what is pleasant, one should not suddenly become exhilarated, for its possible that it may soon disappear. It is the way of the world – high one day and low the other. Every hill shall be brought low and every valley shall be filled, says the Bible. So when something pleasant is given, thank God for it.

What you said is cent percent correct. Actually , it is essential to adopt this attitude in life to live peacefully. If we go on taking every thing too much in to our heads and attach too much importance , life becomes a mess. .The emotion of feeling pleasant today looses it's intensity after a few days , if we observe closely Then our mind starts looking for something else to make us feel happy. And if we don't find such things , that makes us miserable.
and if we go on brooding over unpleasant things, that is much more miserable. People then , resort to take extreme decisions hurting themselves or others.
Hence it is necessary to follow your suggestion

• July 27, 2016 at 08:03 AMI understand that experiences are volatile and are replaced with new ones. But the first question that came to my mind is: If we don't rejoice when we have a pleasant experience or feel sad when we have a unpleasant experience, then are not we equal to a vegetable without emotions. Is that a good state to exist by suppressing ones emotions? Have I misunderstood the meaning of this comment ?

• July 27, 2016 at 04:13 PMI don't think Babaji meant that we should have no emotions. Of course we will feel happy or sad given the situation. But this is life! One moment it is sad and the other moment it is otherwise. And normally we react to each one and in doing so we oscillate like a pendulum. We forget that phrase "this too shall pass". And normally we act as if it's going to last forever. But the truth of the matter is nothing lasts forever. Having said that if we bring a centeredness in our attitude, we won't despair as much!! Suffering comes when we resist to what is. So if we inculcate the attitude of prasada buddhi, then am sure suffering will cease to exist. If we take everything that is doled out to us as prasadam, with an attitude of reverence, then where is the suffering?
This is what I have understood. I could be wrong but it serves me well so far!!
