The most important function of the Guru is to act as a well-polished mirror so that we see ourselves as we are, with all our imperfections. The teacher reflects what is going on in us. Sometimes this can be very unpleasant. A genuine spiritual teacher is not worried about the unpleasantness. When it gets very unpleasant, many people leave. What a teacher is looking for is not numbers but to see if one person can change. If we can change one person, that’s enough to change the world.
