This (examination, to know thyself) is possible only in the midst of society. You cannot really study your mind – which is another word for know your Self - in isolation; sitting in a cave, because in a cave there is nobody with whom you can interact. No one to get angry with, no one to be jealous of, no one to assault in anger.
